Headed to CES 2012? Expand to a new no-risk sales channel for your electronics

The early results are in for the holiday season, and it’s been a great success.  From a category perspective, here’s how it breaks down broadly as a % of sales so far since we launched in early October:

  • Electronics: 52%
  • Toys, Games & Baby: 32%
  • Home & Garden: 13%
  • Other categories: 3%

Based on this early success, Jessica and I will be out @ CES 2012 on January 9th and 10th to talk with electronics retailers that are interested in expanding to a new sales channel with great traffic, brand, and proven success.

Control your Shipping Options: Ability to Control Alaska/Hawaii & PO Boxes

As part of the recent Marketplace launch, we’ve recently added an enhancement for our sellers (and buyers!) which allows finer-grained control of shipping options for listings.

Previously, a seller could choose from the following four options:

  • Standard Domestic
  • Express Domestic
  • Canada
  • International
With a recent update, we’ve added the ability to select separate domestic options for Alaska, Hawaii, US Protectorates, and PO/APO/FPO boxes.  Check out the implementation on your account settings page:

Depending on what you choose, this is also messaged to the buyer before they select your listing:

Then at checkout time, these options are enforced!
Quite simply, this makes it easier for you to determine — either for your entire account or on a per-listing basis — what shipping options you offer.  This improves both clarity and service for buyers.

Improvements to Refund Processing Introduced

There’s been a lot going on in the Marketplace world recently, but I thought I would talk briefly about a change we introduced today that should help sellers be more specific about the types of refunds that they wish to give to the buyer.

In particular, in addition to choosing a full or partial refund, sellers can now specify if they want to refund item or shipping charges back to the buyer.  The system will keep track of how much you’ve refunded to both amounts, and not allow you to exceed those numbers.

And … now that the marketplace is charging tax, we will refund the appropriate tax to the buyer automatically!
